Student Support News

The Student Support team are excited to have some new team members on board for Term 1, 2020. Mrs Gunes Asik and Mrs Sebnem Golbasi join us as Learning Support Teachers, with Mrs Asik being new to Sirius College and Mrs Golbasi who has been our campus Year 7 and 8 Coordinator since 2019. We also welcome back Ms. Amelia Torr, a Speech Pathologist from Dee Wardrop Speech Pathology, who will be delivering therapy for selected students every Wednesday this term. Our team is expanding every year, and we look forward to another positive and productive term working with Mrs Asik, Mrs Golbasi and Ms Torr.

Learning Support

The Learning Support Program is already well underway for the year, with the Learning Support Teachers providing extra assistance to students, both in- and outside of the classroom. Such assistance can include clarifying task instructions, prompting students and ensuring that they are on the right track. If your child is currently, or was previously, in the program, or you would like further information about this program, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Student Wellbeing

Our counsellors, Ms. Eda and Ms. Gon, have great plans in the works for increasing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) opportunities for students. Look out for programs and workshops that will be organised throughout the semester.

Parent Teacher Interviews

There will be a special Parent Teacher Interview evening on Wednesday, 11th March, 4pm - 6pm. This will be a dedicated time for all the families of students who currently receive support to have collaborative conversations with classroom teachers. Bookings are essential and involved parents/guardians will receive notification to make bookings shortly.

The Student Support team is here to provide assistance to all students of Sirius College and we welcome all enquiries. If you’d like to find out more about the support we offer, please call us on ext. 143 or make an appointment to visit us for a chat.

Best wishes,
Denise Rimoni
